Vienna Festival Ballet is proud to present their new Spring Ballet for the 2011 Season – the classic tale of Cinderella one of the best-known rags-to-riches fairy tales of all time. A mistreated young girl, a glass slipper, two comical ugly step-sisters and a handsome prince combine to make the perfect piece of story-telling. With a collection of music taken from the vast array from great Italian composer Rossini’s most famous operatic achievements, a magical melange of music has been chosen that is sure to astonish and amaze. Peter Mallek, Artistic Director, appointed Chris Nicholls, renowned conductor and musical director for ballet, to rearrange and rewrite the ballet score. The music was then recorded especially for the company by the leading orchestra in Kosice, Slowakia, conducted by Nicholls himself. Cinderella is based on the traditional story, the ballet will surely touch and reach out to everyone’s heart, with its combination of pure classical dancing and a touch of pantomime.

In this their 30th anniversary year their casts and productions are sure to thrill against the glorious music background of ballet’s best loved composer Tchaikovsky. The Sleeping Beauty shows off the technique and precision of the dancers in their version of the great classic. A classic fairy tale set to Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, stunning choreography and beautiful costumes combine to portray the struggle between good and evil. The wicked fairy Carabosse lays a curse on Princess Aurora, proclaiming that she will one day pierce her finger - and die. But the Lilac Fairy intervenes, and on the fateful day the princess and the entire palace instead fall into a deep sleep. A century later, when Prince Florimund awakens the princess with a kiss, the palace awakes and a parade of fairytale characters attends the royal wedding.

Swan Lake has the glamour of royalty, with the palace and lakeside sets enhancing the experience of ballet’s most popular story. One of the greatest of love stories it stands alongside Romeo & Juliet but with a different twist because only the company producer decides if evil is to triumph over good – or the other way round.

Mid Wales Opera Tour - Verdi Falstaff

Full of boisterous vulgarity, yet nobly magnificent Falstaff is Mid Wales Opera's latest operatic offering. Shakespeare’s Sir John, now ageing and very short of cash, pursues two wealthy wives of Windsor for their money, but does not bank on their determination to foil him. Their merry tricks lead to his come-uppance, and the chastisement of their own, too jealous, husbands. Intertwined in all is a tender love story. With Verdi’s lyrical melodies and sparkling orchestration, this opera is a joy. A true ensemble work with tricks, disguises and a love of life, Falstaff inspires the passionate admiration of opera lovers everywhere.

Mid Wales Opera is proud to announce the company debut of their new Artistic Director, Nicholas Cleobury, who, with director Martin Lloyd-Evans (Rigoletto 2005, La Boheme 2007 and The Marriage of Figaro 2009) and designer, Bridget Kimak, plans a fully staged and innovative production of Verdi’s final masterpiece.
